Why Humbugs?

As you can imagine going through a cancer journey is a real rollercoaster and you see things not many other parents will ever see or even experience, but throughout it all we were lucky enough to still have a roof over our heads and food to feed our family. Of course there were moments, especially at the beginning of the diagnosis when we thought we were going to lose everything with both of us struggling to work to get an income and no immediate help from the government other than loans.

Looking back this made us put into perspective how many families have this worry everyday. How they can find the funds to feed their family and keep them warm. Experiencing that feeling we knew we had to help our community never have to feel like this.

Food and warmth is our first port of call but so is equal opportunities and fun for them is just as important to us too. This is why we want to constantly evolve and provide opportunities for everyone.

We want to work with everyone and anyone from charities, organisations and businesses to just people who wish to make a change to benefit everyone in the Forest of Dean.

You may have come to the point as to why “Humbugs Projects”?

We knew fairly quickly we wanted to give back to our community after our daughter rang the bell due to how kind they were through our journey, so the first thing we asked Esme (our daughter) was what would you like to call your organisation?

An obsession with our local animals and knowing baby boar were called Humbugs – this is the name she insisted on. Jumping up and down in glee, she is extremely proud to not only have come up with the name and approving our logo, but knowing the difference she is making to her friends and neighbours. Seeing that smile never lost throughout the darkest times is such a beautiful bright thing to witness. It is extremely special that Esme gets to pass this on to others who may be in a dark spot and has the opportunity to lighten their days.
